20 to 50 cm tall herbaceous plant. Deeply tubed tubers. Stem with 5-10 oblong dull leaves as they become smaller, the last bractiform, black stained. Enough dense cylindrical ear, large, herbaceous bracts; pinkish purple flowers with specks; trilobal labellum with long spur. Fior .: V-VII. It grows in meadows and mid-mountain forests.
