Larch coniferous tree grows mainly in the Far East. In the Primorsky Territory, larch has received a small distribution, therefore it makes a small role in the forest fund of the region.

In the Far East xwar tree larch has several types:

  • Daurian;
  • seaside;
  • Kurilian;
  • Okhotsk;
  • Amur.

All species are combined into one group, since they have similar morphological features. Larch is one of the largest trees the height reaches 35 meters, and the volume of the trunk is up to 1 meter. Life expectancy is 300 - 400 years, in some cases plus another 100 years. They have a loose crown, a conical shape, they are exposed to the wind, in this case the shape is one-sided. The top is dull. The branches are not arranged in a clear order, they grow absent-mindedly. Very fragile, especially in winter. Pollination occurs through the wind. Pollen does not have air sacs, while fir and pine do. After the needles bloom, flowering begins. Male flowers are spikelet-shaped, yellow. And female cones are pink or red. The buds are small, ovoid, and open immediately after flowering in autumn or after winter in spring.

When the cones release the seeds, they remain on the branches for another to three years and become dark in color. The seeds are small, just like the flowers, they are ovoid and have a winglet that is very well attached. Seeds sprout poorly, so pollination is unimportant. Most of them are empty. With cross-pollination, seed germination is significantly increased and retains its properties for three years.
