Seed pepper: growing rules

To get a good harvest, the seeds should be planted in early March. If seeds or seedlings are not planted in the ground for a long time, then they will not bear fruit well and will grow weak. Seedlings can be planted in the greenhouse in April, and the seeds can be sown a couple of weeks earlier. Since pepper has a powerful root system, it is recommended to grow it in separate containers. This will prevent root entanglement. As a result, when transplanted into open ground, the root system will not be damaged.

For planting, you can use purchased seeds or your own, collected last season. Before sowing seeds for seedlings, they must be sorted out. To remove low-quality material, dissolve 30-40 g of table salt in a liter of cold water and stir well. Then add the seeds. After a while, low-quality seeds will emerge.

Then the planting material is disinfected. Prepare a weak solution of potassium permanganate and place the seeds there. At the final stage, it is recommended to feed them. This can be done with a special mortar or wood ash.

In order for the pepper to withstand temperature changes, the seeds are hardened. They must be placed on a plate and covered with damp gauze. In this state, they should be no more than 5 days: in the daytime at a temperature of 20 degrees, at night - should be placed in the refrigerator. It is recommended to use only healthy planting material for planting. Old seeds that have been in place for more than 3 years should not be taken.

Seeds should be planted in small containers, cups from sour cream, yoghurts, etc. are suitable. Before filling the container with earth, a drainage layer should be laid on the bottom. Pre-make small holes at the bottom so that water does not stagnate. Sand, expanded clay, polystyrene are suitable as drainage.

Soil preparation

It is not recommended to use last year's soil for sowing seeds. If there is no other option, then the earth must be steamed. This is necessary for the destruction of pest larvae. This procedure is carried out as follows: warm up the earth in the oven and cover it with paper. Then take a large saucepan and pour in the water. Pour the earth into a colander, place it over a saucepan and cover with a lid. In this state, put on low heat and keep for 60 minutes.

If the soil is taken new, then it is better to take compost or sod, fertile soil or sand, peat in a ratio of 1: 2: 1 as a mixture. For 5 kg of the mixture, add half a glass of ash and half a teaspoon of fertilizer.

Planting seeds

After the land and seeds are prepared, you can proceed directly to planting. Plant 2-3 seeds in a separate container and sprinkle with a layer of soil on top. After that, cover with foil and place in a warm place. The soil should be checked regularly for moisture. If there is insufficient moisture, it should be sprayed with settled water.

If planting is not carried out in separate pots, then the seeds should be sown at a distance of 5-6 cm from each other. The seed pots should be placed near the battery or in another warm place. Since peppers are afraid of drafts, they should be avoided. With open doors or windows, the seedling containers should be covered or put in another place.

Then, after the first shoots appear, move the container to a bright place. This is done so that the sprouts that appear do not stretch out. At this time, you can already slightly open the edges of the container, and after a week, remove it altogether.

Watering the seedlings should be carried out regularly, do not dry out or waterlogged. As a top dressing, you can use special fertilizers with peat oxidate. You can prepare fertilizers yourself by taking superphosphate (5 g), potassium salt (1.5 g) and urea (1 g). Mix and dissolve all ingredients in one liter of water. At a temperature of 5 degrees, seedlings are taken out in the sun.

The temperature in the room where the seeds are located should be at least 18 degrees. This will be enough for the seeds to germinate. After the emergence of seedlings, the duration of lighting per day is about 14 hours. If there is not enough light, then you can use fluorescent lamps for several hours in the morning and evening. In cloudy weather, seedlings should also be illuminated.

For the fruit to be tasty and large, the seedlings should be watered sparingly. Growing peppers from seeds is easy. To obtain a rich harvest, you should properly prepare the soil mixture and sow on time. It is important to remember that peppers need good light and warmth.
